Just a stone’s throw from St. Croix

Or at least that’s how it seems on really clear days.  This is how St. Croix, 40 miles due south of us, looked from our home on a recent super-clear evening.  After dark, you could actually see individual lights on hillside homes.

Online Working

Most people are aware of Google’s collection of online services:  Gmail, Calendar, Documents, etc.  However, I think fewer people are aware of a pretty good competitor.  It has most (if not all) of the features offered by Google plus a few.  For example, you can create a free wiki with this service.

You can check out Zoho here.  Give it a test run and enjoy.

Feel free to post your comments or reviews about Zoho here.  We’d love to hear them.

Before Gustav was Gustav

When tropical storm Gustav was still an unnamed tropical disturbance that lingered in our local waters, it spawned quite a few thunderstorms and a lot of funky lightning.  Above is a 30 sec. exposure taken from our house on Tuesday evening Aug 26, lit entirely by lightning.  It was taken well after sunset.

Nighttime Termite Swarm

We have a species of termite here in the Virgin Islands that swarms at night around bright lights, particularly after a period of rain and in the warmer months.  Here is a (pretty poor quality) video of a crazy swarm of hundreds if not thousands of termites around a parking lot light fixture at The Marketplace.

My Hump, My Hump, My Lovely St. John Lumps

If you don’t get the reference above, you should keep up more with modern day pop music.  No, the Black Eyed Peas are not coming to St. John for a concert.

We are referring to the lovely new speed bumps placed all along the South Shore Road, both before and after the Westin Resort, particularly in front of the new Greenleaf Commons (not yet) Shopping Complex that was supposed to be completed last fall I believe.  But one would think with the new speed bumps that the intent is to finish the project sometime this year.  We’ll see.  Even the worn down pre-existing speed bumps have been restored and the one east of Chocolate Hole East Road that used to only affect eastbound traffic now has a twin brother in the westbound traffic lane.  There goes the days of drag racing from Fish Bay to Jacob’s Ladder.

Pond Bay Update No. 3

Sorry, we’ve been a little remiss on the Pond Bay Updates.  We were on vacation.  Here is the latest appearance of Pond Bay, taken yesterday.  Next normal Friday Pond Bay update a week from this Friday, Sept. 5.

They Know Why I Fly…?

It’s not because of this.

Seriously, what a shitty airline.  It keeps jacking up the costs, adding additional costs and it’s not even maintaining its aircrafts or testing its pilots for drug and alcohol use.

Ugh…
