Here is the long-awaited update No. 38.  You’ll notice a few things when compared to the most recent earlier images.  First, everything is green again.  After all that rain earlier this month, the island is once again a blooming paradise.  Also, the sun in shining nice and brightly.  This has been a long time coming.  It has been hazy, humid and still for many days.  I guess the grumblings of the locals has finally been heard by the supreme weather-maker him/herself.

Also notice the sailboat washed up on the rocks at the mouth of Chocolate Hole on the right side of the image.  It’s name is “Fire Drill” in case anyone knows the boat.

Our first of three banana crops (96 in total….I counted) were ripe for the picking this week.  In another week or two, there should be enough banana bread to feed the entire Territory.

We’ll be off island until the last week of May.  Tune back then.

Sorry this is a day late.  We’ve been having internet issues.  Ah…life in the islands.  As you can tell, the week of inclement weather continues.

This morning started with widespread heavy rain throughout the entire island of St. John, something we haven’t seen in a very long time.   There were some heavy showers in Cruz Bay on Thursday afternoon, but THIS is the real deal.

And, the forecast is calling for 70% chance of rain through NEXT SUNDAY!!!  This is terrible news for tourists, but we locals are overjoyed after so many of us had to buy multiple expensive loads of water over the past few very dry month.

UPDATE AT 1:30 PM.  In the nearly seven hours since the rain began, the entire western half of St. John, including Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole, has received over eight inches of rain.
